Steps to clean a designer leather bag
- Eliminate the bad smell. If you haven't used the leather bag for a long time, or you have stored it carelessly in the closet, the first thing you should do is eliminate the bad smell. It can be done naturally and easily: Open all zippers and pockets, and leave the bag outdoors to ventilate (To avoid future bad odors, store the bag in a cover)
- Essential oil. If the bad smell has not been completely eliminated in step 1, take a little cotton and soak it with a few drops of tea tree oil or an aromatic essential oil, then rub the inside of the bag well. The result will be a pleasant and fresh smell.
- Hydrate the bag. Over time, leather accessories and bags dry out. To bring your bag back to life and give it shine, try hydrating it using a specialized moisturizing cream or any moisturizing cream that you can buy at any supermarket (Such as Nivea, for example)
- Specific stains. Has your leather bag been stained? Moisten a cloth with water and rub the stains with small circular movements. If these stains are not removed with this, wait for the bag to dry and try to erase them with a regular eraser, like the ones you find in a stationery store. Rub it gently on the leather until the stain is removed.
- Mold stains. If the bag has mold stains, you can clean it with a cloth soaked in alcohol mixed with water, a mixture of water with vinegar can also be useful. To prevent mold, always store the leather bag in sealed bags or envelopes.
- Oil stains. To remove these stains, you need to absorb the oil grease, for this, sprinkle talcum powder on the bag, then let it rest for a couple of hours and finally remove it gently with a brush. You will see how the oil stains disappear almost like magic.
- General cleaning. For daily cleaning, gently brush the leather bag to remove accumulated dirt and dust.
- Summer care. Just like with our own skin, prolonged exposure of leather bags to the sun can have negative consequences that weaken their leather, so you should always protect the bag as much as possible by placing it in the shade whenever you can.
- Store it properly. The last step, but not the least important, to keep your leather bags clean and well cared for, you should hang them on hangers, never stack or throw them in the closet. Also, avoid storing bags with objects inside. And if possible, store the bag in a sealed cover to preserve it better.
